The Serbian language is the mother tongue to approximately 7,020,550 people, mostly in Serbia (4,500,000 (2006)), 297 000 in Albania (2007), 1 300 000 in Bosnia and Herzegovina (2004), 33,300 in Macedonia (2001), 198,000 in Montenegro (2006), 27,000 in Romania (2002 census), 4,160 in Russia (2002 census), 20,000 in Turkey (1980). Serbian is the official language in the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Kosovo, and it is used culturally in a large number of countries around the world with Serbian ethnic communities. The Serbian language has two yat reflexes, Ekavian and Ijekavian.
